My name is Tom Salter. I'm the president at Alpha Gamma Eta, up here at
the University of Vermont. Eventhough our elections are a ways away, i
would like to get input on how other chapters run elections. the way we do
it is we get nominations, we have all the candidates leave the room and
one at a time come in and give a speech, then field questions from the
chapter. then the canidate leaves the room and the chapter discusses pros
and cons of this person at that position (ie the VPs saying "she was a big
part in my service committee and I think she would make a good VPS"). it
is noted several times that during the course of this discussion that no
one is allowed to compare this person to another candidate.
this is the system that was used when I got here, so I havn't seen
anything different. after the elections last semester several brothers
came to me and voiced there dislike of the current system, saying it
wasn't fair that they weren't there to defend themselves and that
basicially anyone could say anything they wanted.
so that's my situation and I would appreciate greatly any input.
thanks for your time,
in LF&S,
