Dear Brothers-
My name is Michael Hopkins and I am the Director of Public Relations for
the Beta Beta chapter at Michigan State University. For the past few
months we have dealt with many setbacks in our dealings with the University.
Firt off, everyone should know that we have a Sergeant-at-Arms who handles
all of the room reservations and official paperwork that needs to be taken
care of. His reputation in the chapter is impeccable. Let's just say he
goes far beyond dotting his i's and crossing his t's.
In the spring, after completing all of the required paperwork, the
University decided to turn our office into a copy center. We were then
placed in a shoebox-sized office with three other organizations.
During the summer, we found out that our regular meeting room in the
Student Union was given to another organization. Turns out the reservation
dates were pushed forward, even though we were told they would stay the same.
This fall we found a classroom to hold our meetings in, and the University
claimed that we left the room "messy", and that we would have to pay $50 a
week to have the room cleaned when we are through and attempted to revoke
our privileges all together.
Just today, our Sergeant-at-Arms tried to register for a large room in
which to hold our Activation ceremony. He was met with strong resistance
when he informed the director of the hall that we were a fraternity. We
might not be able to hold the ceremony in that building.
To summarize, we are not getting any support from the University. If
anybody has run into similar problems, or just has some advice, the Beta
Beta chapter would greatly appreciate it. We are at our wits end.

Thank you very much!

michael
