Regarding the alcohol policy and other questions of this type of nature,
a good resource is your Sectional Chair. In U. Dayton's case, that is
Mike Schrader.
The responses that I have already seen posted by David Gates (Sec. 89
Chair), Joe Del Collo, Robert Dean, and Dan Roberts are excellent
answers. Especially in regards to the idea that an event can be
"unofficial" is basically bullshit.
The only things I might add (and these are general rules that go beyond
the question raised in the original post) are that 1) you want to avoid
kegs as these are open containers that make it harder to control both
who drinks (potential underage) and how much people drink 2) you want
to avoid "passing the hat" to collect money as this can in effect be
considered chapter money thereby condoning and promoting the alcohol.
