I think Riz already covered this point, but if an all-female group were
to all join a new co-ed APhiO chapter, that says to me that there is a
pretty strong desire for those females on that campus to want to be
a part of APhiO.
One part of the chapter being allowed to choose it's own membership
confuses me since new chapters must be co-ed if based at a co-ed campus.
Why don't new chapters get the right to choose to be single-sexed if
they choose too? And that also applies to rechartering groups of
formerly all male chapters. And isn't there something in the National
By-Laws that says chapters can't discriminate against someone based on sex,
race, etc?
I believe that it's time for chapters to stop hiding behind the Resolution
of 1976 (aka the Grandfather Clause) to discriminate against half of
their student body. The fraternity as a whole can only benefit from
having all students at all US colleges and universities be allowed to
join APhiO if they choose to do so. And no Brother should be denied
active membership at any chapter based solely on gender.
