Regarding the amazing amount of material people have sent out on this
subject, and the rather nasty tone a few of the messages have had:
how is it in the spirit of brotherhood to force _your_ opinions on other
people? This is not a subject you can change people's minds on. And it's
even degenerating into personal attacks ON YOUR BROTHERS. Of course I'm
thankful for the changes made in 1976; I wouldn't be a brother without
them. But if people feel that brotherhood in their chapter is enhanced by
the presence or absence of women, who are we to say they're wrong?
Do any of us know more about what is best for a specific chapter than the
members of that particular chapter? For that matter, has anyone spoken
against the policies of their own chapter, as they stood at the time of
their pledging?
To be honest, I don't think it's fair to the women on these campuses.
Neither do I think it is fair to the brothers of all-male chapters to try
to force this issue. And whether you think an all-male chapter is a
collection of misogynistic pigs, or you think all of these idiots who keep
trying to make you accept women don't know what they're talking about,
they are STILL your brothers, and they have a right to their own opinions.
And as your brothers, they deserve more respect than they have received in
this argument. No matter which side of the debate they represent.
To quote Thomas Jefferson (and probably incorrectly, but the spirit is the
same): "I disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your
right to say it." YiLFS--
