I caught some discussion on transfer brothers being allowed/not allowed to
transfer in as actives.
Now I know that some people out there are going to put a male/female slant on
this, and in a legislative setting, that may be inherent, but generally, if a
transfer conforms to active guidelines, and perhaps a background check to
ensure he/she is not a felon at the former chapter or otherwise have
membership suspended, then I see no reason to bar him/her from being active.
If there's a grandfather clause for all-male chapters, so be it. So I ask
Auburn this question- if a perfectly-helpful and enthused brother comes along
from another school and enrolls, and he conforms with the all-male
grandfathering, then why keep him out? Aren't you a small enough chapter
already?
When I start sitting down with my proposals next summer for '98, this was one
of my intended areas to examine. What I've learned is that it would be very
challenging to write an airtight yet generally agreeable bylaw amendment for
this situation.
I like a good challenge. :)
I'll see what I think up then and run it by you all. In the meantime, what do
you all think?
