I was president of Zeta ('71 $ '72)the year after and during the time that we
started the National pust to make APO go coed. We had the first female
member of national under name B Hesselmyer.
For all of you male only types. Remember not to long ago you had to be a
white male to join. Are you also against all races.
While APO was started as a service frat for old Eagle Scouts that wanted to
continue their service. The fraternity has grown since then. Some would say
that letting women into the fraternity has saved it (growth wise). There is
now no reason that women should not be full "brothers". There is many legal
reasons why they should also. If your chapter receives free university
office space, it then is the recipient of federal moneys. Obviously
discrimination is against the law. We were prepared to sue the national in
the '70s for discrimination and members should now do the same.
Do you really want to be a member of APO if it discriminates?? At a regional
meeting in the '70s in Las Vegas, the door prize for the chapter with the
most members was a trip to a whore house. Is this what your fraternity means
to you!
All members (present and alumni) should push the national office to
immediately force all chapters to allow women or remove their charter. Many
Life members are not donating any more money to the national because of this.
All chapters should STOP sending money to the national until this change is
made.
