That's right, there is no mistake in the header.
I just emailed one of the two region chairs (on the advice of the other one)
in charge of I and/or II, who hold joint conferences.
Past practice as I have seen it is to decide the site of regionals at the
preceding year's National convention.
In 1999, it immediately precedes New year's 2000, which promises to be one of
the biggest parties in the history of the planet.
If we wait until December 98 to decide, we might as well settle on the Motel
6 in Aroostook Country, Northern maine. We probably already have lost out on
most major hotels as it is.
Which is why I have been suggesting (actually since March) to plan now for
Regionals then, and, as in the case of Nationals site selection, convene and
vote at the preceding like conference.
In addition, Regionals-goers should be voting on Regional items such as
conference selection since they are a more representative body of attendees
and there will be more chapters involved in the decisionmaking.
So I strongly urge you to start poring through your triple A guides while
stuffing your faces with turkey this thanksgiving and take an extra hour with
your chapter early in december to discuss possibilities of hotels.
I myself will be looking at hotels on Long Island and the lower Hudson Valley
of NY, primarily for hotels within the commuter rail web of NY City, as I am
interested in organizing a major APO run to Times Square for New Year's Eve.
By the way, who here would be interested in Times Square for New Years 2000?
Anyway, not only should we get the ball rolling now, but this should be a
permanent region policy. And for other regions, such as IV, you may consider
this policy too, if you haven't by now.
Lastly, I see that the schedule of events is already set. So might i suggest
that this business meeting be either right before the opening activity on the
28th or on the morning of the 30th?
