Actually, when an APO chapter recharters (or when a new chapter
charters), it is to be a co-ed chapter (if it is a co-ed campus).
This is according to the resolution that was passed in 1976.
But I think that encouraging the current all-male chapters to assist in
the start-up of a service sorority is a great idea, if there is an
interest in a service sorority on the campus. It would
go a long way toward forging that bond between APO, GSS and OPA that's been
discussed on this list.
I know that Brother Jones would like to see the 1976 resolution
rescinded, but I don't see that occurring. However, I don't think we
should require the currently active all-male chapters to go co-ed.
Also in the 1976 resolution, we said that they would be allowed to
remain all-male. But I do think that the women of those campuses should
be given the opportunity to join a service Greek organization, which is
why I think that Brother Vehlow's proposal would be an excellent idea.
