Some general comments on the various proposals begin made. I'm not sure I
got everything that went by, but I'll try...
1) Extension membership for women on all-male campuses. This has widely
different levels of difficulty based on which all-male chapter is being
dealt with. While this would be relatively easy for Drexel (Penn < 5
minutes away),Moravian (Other Section 91 chapters within 15 minutes?),
and Duquesne (Pitt,CMU < 10 minutes away) it would be much more difficult
to do at other schools such as U of Maine at Machias or U of Minnesota at
Duluth both of which are 1.5 hours+ from the nearest co-ed chapter.
2) Affiliation with GSS. It might have a chance if all of the all-male
chapters were unified on this, but with Auburn and Tenn Tech having OPA
chapters, I don't think it would go forward.
3) Requirement of service sorority on campus for APO to be all-male.
While Gamma Sigma Sigma describes itself as a service sorority most of the
time the Historically Black Fraternities and Sororities also sometimes
describe themselves as Service Fraternities and Sororities. (and to a much
larger degree that the IFC and NPC greek that has been true.) If the NPHC
sororities are considered to be Service Sororities for this purpose,
between them, the GSS chapters,and the OPA chapters, there are only two
schools that would be affected: Carson Newman College (TN) and
Hardin-Simmons U. (TX) and I'm not even sure about them, I just haven't
been able to find a list of student organizations on these two campuses.
I could see this getting sticky in a couple of ways. a) Is this affected
by whether or not GSS has pledged any men at this campus? b) Would APO
end up doing GSS (or OPA)'s rushing for them to keep them alive?
