There is a copy of the letter sent out by the chief scout exec at the
"Scouter's Internet Compass website" on the archive page of the
"Explorer-Net" listserv. My apologies, but I don't have that url with me
at the moment, currently logged in from a terminal with email access only.

It verifies that the change will take place. ANd discussion from Scouters
on the net, some in national exploring committees confirm some of the
specifics.

Career Exploration Posts will be moved to the Subsidiary organization of
the BSA, LfL (Learning for Life), which is a school based educational
program for building character and skills. LfL doesn't have the
discriminatory membership policies of the traditional core scouting
programs.

Outdoor/high adventure/ and Mormon explorer Posts, and probably the Sea
Scouts will be moved into a new division called Venture Scouting. Venture
Scouting currently exists within Scout Troops as older-scout programs. It
will be expanded to now serve as the program for these posts.

Venture Scouting exists as part of teh Wolrd Scout movement. The BSA
creating this new division will keep inline with other national scout
organizations. Also, the BSA used to have an older scout program for
Young adults beyond Traditional scout troop and exploring ages known as
Rover scouts. The BSA hasn;t mentioned anything about the resurection of
this program, but their is a lot of discsuuon on "explorer-net" in support
of this program being revived.

Rover Scouts also exist in many countries, and I believe is geared towards
young adults 18-26. It would be really interesting to see if the BSA
revives this program. As I understand it Rovers are service oriented.
Maybe some of our old alumni who were in scouting have knowledge of this
program and why it was disbanded. I wonder if it had anything to do with
Apha Phi Omega fulfilling a similar role on the college campuses back when
our fraternity was only comprised of former scouts and scouters?
