About: 1998 Fall Pledge Class Namesake Honoree

At its July 1998 meeting, the National Board of Directors will decide for
whom the 1998 Fall Pledge Class will be named. I chair the committee that
will make a recommendation to the Board regarding this decision. Serving
on the committee are International Relations Director Dave Emery, National
Finance and Operations Director John Wetherington, National Membership and
Extension Director Charlie Zimmerman, and Regional Directors Cheryl Smith
(I), Lee Correll (III), Susan Itterly (VIII) and Tanya Refshauge (IX).

The purpose of this letter is to solicit nominations for this important
honor. Nominations should be sent to me in care of the National Office by
no later than May 1. Nominations may be submitted to me electronically via
the National Office at <aponed@aol.com>. While all complete nominations
(see below) received in the National Office by May 1 will be considered,
the 1998 Pledge Class Namesake Committee has developed the following
guidelines:

* Nominees should be persons who have had significant and positive impact
beyond the Chapter level. If the candidates are being nominated because of
their accomplishments within the Fraternity, the resulting impact should
extend to at least the Regional level. If the candidates are being
nominated because of their accomplishments outside of the Fraternity, the
resulting impact should extend to at least the National level.

* Nominees should be persons whose actions, accomplishments and life
experiences reflect each of the Fraternity's Cardinal Principles of
Leadership, Friendship and Service.

To be complete, a nomination must include the following information
presented in this order (incomplete nominations will not be considered):

* an introductory cover letter from the nominator; if the nominator is a
Chapter or other group of people, the letter should be from the nominator's
authorized representative.

* a brief biographical sketch of the nominee, including, as appropriate,
the nominee's current home or business address, telephone number(s) and
e-mail address. (See note below.)

* a listing of the nominee's actions, accomplishments and life experiences
that reflect the Fraternity's Cardinal Principle of Leadership. (See note
below.)

* a listing of the nominee's actions, accomplishments and life experiences
that reflect the Fraternity's Cardinal Principle of Friendship. (See note
below.)

* a listing of the nominee's actions, accomplishments and life experiences
that reflect the Fraternity's Cardinal Principle of Service. (See note
below.)

* any additional information or comments that the nominator would like the
committee to consider.

* the nominator's name, telephone number(s) and e-mail address; or, in the
case of a nomination being submitted by a Chapter or other group of people,
the names, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses of at least two contact
people.

(Note: If the nominee is other than a specific individual -- a group of
people, for example -- please provide relevant descriptive and contact
information.)

The 1998 Fall Pledge Class Name Committee looks forward to receiving your
nominations. Thank you.
