What's up to all brothers,
While we are all discussing about the APO history book, I would like to
suggest writing a supplemental history book to the current one already
in print. Please don't get me wrong. I think that the current one is
good, and I refer to it FREQUENTLY, but IMHO lacks the depth I am
looking for (with the exception of Chapter 1--In The Beginning). What I
am looking for is more of a written description of the ACTUAL history of
the fraternity, including a more comprehensive biography of the founders
and presidents, a better (and more clear) listing of our famous alumni
(I know we have more famous brothers than just Clinton and Lovell), the
goings on of ALL our national conventions, not just the conventions of
1931, 1967, and 1976, the plight of our inter-fraternal as well as
intra-fraternal affairs through the years, and the history of our
diversity (Let's be honest, Alpha Phi Omega wasn't always the
melting-pot fraternity it is now, even though that was it's aim from
it's founding) as well as our plight as it related to the BSA movement
(Boy Scouts is NOT a dirty word). If need be, and if National's and Bob
Barkhurst okays it, I will help write the book myself, keeping it
strictly objective. For our Diamond anniversary, this is what I really
want to contribute to the fraternity (though it may be after the party's
over, but a gift nontheless). The 1993 history book was IMHO a great
appetizer, but now it's time to deliver the main meal.
