Sectional conference survey

Having been to many conferences over the years, I'm interested in feedback on
a few things:

1. What section are you in?
2. What chapter are you in?
3. Active/Alum/Staff?
4. How many in-section conferences have you attended?
5. How many out-of-section conferences have you attended?
6. Are sectionals held: fall/spring? fall only? Spring only?
7. If only once a year, why?
8. Do external events at colleges affect the choice for sectionals. For
example- Parent's Weekend? Football games? March Madness? etc.
9. Do external events outside of college affect the choice for sectionals?
(i.e. Final Four, World Series, etc.)
10. Would you go to sectionals if it fell on a break (e.g, spring break?)
11. Would you go to sectionals if it fell on a holiday? (e.g. Easter, Passover?)
12. Are sectionals normally held Fri-Sun, Sat-Sun, Sat only, etc.?
13. Do sectionals have a formal portion (e.g. banquet)?
14. If they do, have they always?
15. If not, were there ever banquets associated with your section's conf.?
16. If they do, would you like to see a nonformal sectionals?
17. If they don't, would you like to see a formal portion of sectionals?
18. How much does sectionals cost on average, not counting T-shirt, etc.?
19. Has the decision to attend sectionals ever hinge on cost? For you? For
others in your chapter? Section?
20. Is your section's chapters all represented at the conferences usually?
21. If not, which chapters don't and why not?
22. How many chapters are in your section?
23. Back to the actual conference- is there housing provided on campus usually?
24. Do you stay on campus or in hotel?
25. Would the choice of accomodations hinge your decision to attend?
26. At the conference: are there usually service projects?
27. Which have been your favorite?
28. Are there seminars?
29. Which have been your favorite?
30. Are there icebreaking parties/events?
31. Which have been your favorite?
32. Are there "roll calls" or other chapter presentations/contests?
33. Which have been your favorite?
34. What are the time limits and other rules for roll call in your conf?
35. Are roll calls delivered during the banquet/dinner or elsewhere?
36. Do you hold sectionals jointly with another conference?
37. If not, have you ever?
38. Would you like to hold a joint conference? If so, with which section?
39. Has your section recently split from another section?
40. Is your section considering future segmentation?
41. If you were in charge of realignment of sections, what would you see as
your preferred boundaries?
42. Do you have a car or other set of wheels to drive?
43. Regardless of the answer to 42., are you normally a passenger or driver
to sectionals?
44. Ever take a plane to a section conference, regardless if it's your
section or elsewhere?
45. What's the two chapters in your section that are furthest apart from
each other?
46. Are your conferences themed?
47. What was your favorite theme for a sectionals?
48. Do you think themes are important in a conference?
49. Would/have you ever hinged your decision on attending a conference on
what theme has been set for the conference?
50. Do you have T-shirts at your conferences?
51. Do you buy all/some/none of the shirts?
52. Does your conference ever sell other conference wear- e.g. sweatshirts,
shorts, caps, underwear, etc.?
53. Does your conference provide glassware?
54. If so, any favorite types of glassware come to mind?
55. Does your conference sell other types of souveniers?
56. How many people usually attend the conference?
57. Do you get a lot of out-of-section people at your conference?
58. Have you ever met an S.O. at a conference?
59. If so,was it someone you talked to earlier on email/phone/etc. that you
had agreed to meet there, or was it an unplanned meeting for the first time?
60. When sitting at the meal table at the conference, does your chapter sit
together or mix with other chapters?
61. Does your chapter share housing together, or do you room with other
chapters while at the conf.?
62. Have you ever changed your housing assignment based on people you wanted
to stay with?
63. How far in advance are the conference hosts/sites selected?
64. Are conferences held on/off campus?
65. How long is it usually before a chapter repeats as a host?
66. Has any chapter hosted two or more consecutive sectionals?
67. Has any two or more chapters teamed up to host a conference?
68. How involved is section staff in the planning/execution of a conference?
69. Has there been any planning/eexecution problems you've experienced that
you'd like to share?
70. When at a conference, do you clique up with a few friends, or constantly
take the initiative to meet brand new people?
71. Have you ever traveled to/from sectionals with other chapters?
72. Do you require/strongly encourage pledges to go to sectionals?
73. Do you require/strongly encourage pledges to otherwise interact outside
the chapter in APO (email,IRC,etc.)?
74. Have you ever went to sectionals specifically on the recommendation or
to meet email friends (from the listservers, IRC, etc.)?
75. When/where was your first ever sectionals?
76. In 75, were you a pledge/brother/prospective/petitioner/etc?
77. How do yuo rank your sectionals experience(s) among everything in your
fraternity career?
78. Have you ever been the sole representative of your chapter to a conference?
79. If yes, was it/were they in-section or out-of-section conferences?
80. How many members are in your chapter?
81. How many members of your chapter attend sectionals?
82. Is there a visible sign-up sheet or ad campaign in your chapter to get
people to go?
83. Has sectionals ever conflicted with another chapter/fraternity activity?
84. If so, has your chapter solicited one or two (or more ) people to
represent the chapter at the conference while the rest of the chapter take
care of home business?
85. How active is section staff in encouraging chapter's involvement in the
section and/or attendance at sectional conferences?
86. Does the section sponsor any section-wide activities outside of sectionals?
87. Have you ever had travel mishaps while going to/from sectionals?
88. Have you ever assisted a brother/etc. with a travel mishap?
89. Has the decision to attend sectionals ever been based on weather?
90. Has a conference ever been disrupted by weather/natural phenomena?
91. Has a sectionals ever been cancelled/postponed for whatever reason?
92. Does your section operate an account to assist chapters who are hosting
conferences (or to assist a chapter in any other capacity)?
93. Have sectionals ever made or broke your chapter's finances?
94. Has your decision to attend sectionals ever adversely affected your
decision to attend a Regional/ National convention?
95. Has your decision to attend sectionals ever positively encouraged your
decision to attend a Regional/National convention?
96. Have you ever done a full-day (or extended) seminar at a sectionals?
97. Have you ever declined to attend a full-day seminar at sectionals solely
because of the length of time it was?
98. Have you ever declined to attend a full-day seminar at sectionals because
of the other activities running against it.
99. Any misc. adventures not already mentioned that you would like to share?
100. Do you think this questionnaire is TOO DANG LONG?

I'm stopping this questionnaire here, for now. I had originally thought I
could have a survey under 20 q's, but apparently there's a lot of issues that
just come to mind, and I haven't even exhausted my supply yet.

I'll compile the answers, and let you all know in the near future what they are as well as my own.

By the way, "sectionals" in the above survey is a loose term that also applies
to conclaves and other section conferences that go by different names.
