I was wondering when this discussion would pop up this time around. *grin*
This was a concern at the last Nationals, and as I understand it at the
previous Nationals two or three times removed. I played a small part on the
convention planning staff, and it was my understanding that we decided NOT to
split the roll-call up into Sections/Regions/etc. because, as one Brother
stated earlier, it's the *Chapter*'s time in the National spotlight. And
this I wholeheartedly agree with. However, there is a major time factor
inherent in the whole shebang...so here's my series of suggestions:
1. Let the Chapters have the option of combining into Section/Region
roll-call. There will probably be many Chapters only sending a few
delegates, and they will probably feel more comfortable doing it with a
larger group.
2. Have all groups who wish to do roll-call sign up ahead of time. I think
we did this last time around, but don't quote me on that. If you have the
Chapters who are interested in doing roll-call sign up, say no later than 2-3
weeks before the convention, then you have a good idea what time limits will
be necessary, as well as how long the whole thing will take. Not every
Chapter wants to do roll call...and giving them the ability to opt in if
they're interested let's you know just how many folks WILL be doing it.
3. If it looks to last more than an hour and a half or two hours, then break
it up into multiple sessions - give folks an intermission in between, maybe
an hour or so. Let folks know which chapter/section/region will be on-stage
when (at least approximately).
Anyway, those would be my suggestions...hope they help out.
