Hello everyone,

I am, therefore I post!

This message is in response to several recent posts. I thought
it would be better all in one message, rather than 5 different
ones. This could probably benefit many of you. Let's see...

CAMMY BURNS:

> I'm sorry, but you have offended a lot of people. APO is known

In response to this, a few facts first: (1) APO is not yet an
international organization -- APO in the USA and APO in the
Philippines are two totally different organizations, even though
they came from the same idea. (2) the official title is
"national service fraternity". (3) APO _IN_GENERAL_ has been
co-ed since 1976, but not totally.

With that out of the way let me say, I support your cause. In
1976 the fraternity as a whole decided to allow co-ed chapters to
exist. Today, the co-ed chapters FAR out-number the single sex
chapters. I believe women _AND_ men should participate together
in all respects in this fraternity, and I believe women should
feel just as comfortable about their fraternity as the men have.
To continue to exclude women from our texts, in my humble
opinion, is selfish and makes SOME women (& some men) feel
uncomfortable. Am I a feminist?? NO! I'm male, but I support
the female cause. I feel just as uncomfortable as they do. I
have to sing "...loyal brothers we..." with my arms resting on
the shoulders of women. Does that make any sense?? NO!

You have to understand that he successfully completed your pledge
program. The conflict there was, why do you vote against giving
him Brotherhood, while at the same time tell him he passed the
test? That is called a conflict of interest.

> Myself and many others in the chapter are very unhappy about

To that all I can say is, I sympathize with you.

As I told someone else in "private" E-Mail, make your Pledge
Education Program more rigorous. That way, you can allow anyone
& his pet to Pledge, but only the good ones will pass. The
clincher is (as I said above), if a Pledge PASSES your Pledge
Program, than he/she has MET YOUR GOALS. If you want to weed-out
the "undesirables" (& I use that term loosely), set your goals
HIGHER. If you set your goals too low (like in the past),
everyone will achieve them. Does that help?? It makes sense to
me.

Yeah, you could elect(/appoint) an inter-chapter liaison. Select
someone in your chapter that concentrates on communicating with
other chapters around the section/region(/nation). Define the
job in your Bylaws so it's not ambiguous, and train someone with
those definitions to do the job diligently. Sound good?

I know you said "SORTA", but AGChi is not too far away. I make
the 2-1/2 hour drive every 3 to 4 weeks or so as their
representative. I used to do it every 2 weeks when my fiance was
there. It's really not that bad. Hey, you could even get a ride
with me if you let me know. Also, try calling sectional staff to
ask for rides. We travel all the time.

> Let me know your opinions, please. Even flames are ok........
> But wear your asbestos if you flame...........

I'm always happy to oblige. In regard to flaming, let me say
this: NONONONONONO! PLEASE, NO FLAMING ON THIS LIST!!! Okay?

CHRIS LAYNE:

** no reason to quote **

In regards to your comments, I have a few things to say. First,
please see my comments in regards to CAMMY BURNS' post (above).
Second, (& please don't jump on me for saying this) I understand
where you're coming from, but could you please calm down just a
wee bit? You came off sounding just a little too defensive.
It's understandable why you would've been offended, but please
keep in mind that others are offended by your opinions as well.
Lastly, please don't be afraid of change. (See my comments
below).

TO EVERYONE:

Change can be good _or_ bad, but change is constant and change is
necessary. There is no way to prevent change. It just happens.

Whoever makes the decisions for your respective chapters, just
try to keep an open mind, be sympathetic to other peoples'
causes, be understanding, and DON'T BE AFRAID OF CHANGE!! We
must change.

As people change around our country, our organization must change
with them or we shall most certainly perish. Afterall, what does
our organization consist of? The answer is, people from all
around the country. We must accommodate as many as we can!

This has been my $0.02 worth!

Sincerely,
Jeremy Gagliardi
