Jeremy Gagliardi and Other Brothers
First let me address the topic of the PC 'ness of the
toast song and other stuff. FIrst, I want to make know. I have
nothing against females in the chapter. If I was a female, i
would still want to be called a brother... I even encourage
females to pledge at this all male chapter... I think most think
I am joking though and never do. But any way... Or fraternity has
been around for many years. Things change, just as animals do in
order to allow their species to change. I think the big deal
evolves around the word 'MEN'... OK granted when the fraternity
was formed it was made of men and so they used the terminology.
BUT, The word MEN/MAN changed to be: ONE/HUMANITY... I feel that
what it still means. I think society is changing again. More and
more women are showing that they can do as well and as much as men
can. All power to the women, is what I say... I believe all are
equal and should have equal opprotunities to do anything they are
capable of doing. I think the womens movement is causing the change
in the mean of words.... Which more and more why I think the last
mean I gave is more fitting for our situation... That is my two
cent on the topic...

I apologize for making two posts about this male - topic...
I can image some people this topic is getting on there nerves.
I have had the opportunity to experience male and co-ed chapters
as an active brother. I pledge at a co-ed chapter (Alpha Beta)
and transfered to Moravian College (Nu Lambda) that is all-male.
And as David and Chris stated in their replies:
David "DoC" Wallace <wallajd@mail.auburn.edu>
Chris P Layne <laynecp@MAIL.AUBURN.EDU>
The Nu Lambda chapter remains all-male and does not plan on going
co-ed any time in the future, unless forced and I think brothers
here would try to find a way around going co-ed.
You ask why? Well, this is tough for me as a transfer to say. But
what I can say is this chapter has an extremely strong bond among
its brothers compared to the chapter I can from... I agree with Chris
, I think he said it, all chapters are unique. That is one thing I
think what makes APO what it is along with diversity.. But They both
also mentioned Tradition. As Historian, I did a major dig job in to
our history. Our chapter has been male mainly from a traditional
stance since 1960 (34 years). Many of the first brothers were
ones that were all in boy scouts. That may not be impressive compared
to chapters that have been around since 1925, but it is held in high
standards here. Well, as for why not go co-ed. That is the part that
is hard for me as a brother here to explain, because I have been
trying to find that out myself. First you have to understand some
back ground of the school. First it started as a all Fe-male school.
Next, it has been around for 252 yrs (I have been told it is the
sixth oldest school in the Nation). The APO chapter here was the first
service group to form and of course back then the Boy Scouts were the
strong end of that. Also our school is very small (almost 1300
students). Now to answer the question: The responces I get are of
three forms. (1) Just because [that is how it has been]
(2) do to the size of the school, the administers of the greek system
encourage us to remain male. And (3) there is a service sorority
on campus that use to be GSS and we would fighting each other for
membership.
Well, that is my answer to Jeremy's question...
