Dear brothers,
Being an active in Nu Mu (an all-male chapter) for 4 years, I have come
to appreciate being an all-male chapter. Yes it has been tradition since
1961. Some people think low of us being all-male chapters. Having a
chapter of Gammas Sigma Sigma (the national service sorority) here at the
U of Minnesota at Duluth, give us the feeling sometomes of being co-ed.
We are very active with the GSS chapter here and always will be. We run
the Escort Service together in conjunction with campus security and
campus police. We also do many other service projects with them as
well. we also date many of them, so we feel like a tightly knit
group. But we also do date female members of other APO chapters as
well. Since we are the only all-male chapter in our Section and Region
(I think) the other chapters have never given us negative feedback. We
have worked well with the chapters at U of WI-Eau Claire, Luther College,
Gustavus Adolphus College, and North Dakota State University as well as
other chapters. It has never occurred to me why others would want
us to change. My opinion is to let the chapters that are all-male
to remain so until they want to change. We are not all macho sexist pigs
like some deem us to be. I'm sure in time that all chapters might be coed.
This has been my opinion and my opinion only.
thank you for your time,
Shad Cook
