All,
As a former undergrad member (Ohio U., 1956-60) and sometime faculty
advisor (SUNY, Fredonia, 1980s-to date), I was surprised to see this
discussion when I returned from a year overseas. When I became a
chapter advisor in the 1980s, I was amazed that APO had gone co-ed,
but felt it was an idea whose time had come--it would have been
impossible in the late 1950s. Now the who issue has heated up again.
An organization should probably seek to attract members who agree with
its goals (Leadership, Friendship, Service) so why impose what, in
the 1990s, would be artificial constraints on that membership.
For what it is worth (if anything).
