Greetings,

This time I'm just passing on some useful information.

The last Section 84 Sectional conference (4/94) was held at
Frostburg State University, in Frostburg MD (the AGChi chapter),
and one of the lectures given was on Leadership. It was done by
one of FSU's prominent professors (I'm sorry I can't remember his
name), and this is what he passed on to us:

Leadership is easy, but GREAT leadership requires...

          VISION
             _
            / \
           / \
          / \
         / \
        / \
ETHICS < GREATNESS > REALITY
        \ /
         \ /
          \ /
           \ /
            \_/

          COURAGE

Certainly, there can be a leader that has one, two, or even three
of the above traits, but it is only when you have all four that
you become a GREAT leader.

For example, Adolph Hitler was considered to be a leader, because
he certainly had VISION & COURAGE. But, he was certainly not a
GREAT leader, because he really lacked ETHICS, and he wasn't very
REALISTIC. We've also known some leaders to have good ETHICS and
VISION (& sometimes even REALITY), but often they haven't had the
COURAGE to see their (realistic) visions through.

I hope this helps to define good leadership to you. It has
certainly helped me. I'm not saying I'm a "great leader", but at
least I now have an idea of what traits to look for in myself.

L8r,
Jeremy Gagliardi
