Regarding the letter from Shawn Putnam about "all male" chapters
and the possibility of changing OUR fraternity toast song:(I know I'm
kinda behind and this was an issue back in September, but I haven't
been able to check my mail in awhile.) I've gone through all of my
mail since Mr. Putnam posted his thoughts on these two issues, and I
still haven't seen the riotous mass of brothers offended by his views.
I have read and re-read what Mr. Putnam wrote, and I see nothing
offensive about it.( Perhaps I'm mistaken and should have my vision
corrected.) Not only that, but I saw nothing having anything to do
with anti-feminism, and no, Iota Mu at the University of South Carolina
is not an all-male chapter. I'm a female,(last time I seriously
checked) and nothing about what he said bothered me in the least.

Also, the toast song to me is fine like it is. When we sing the song
as brothers, the song itself is meant to affirm our brotherhood to each
other. I'm not saying that changes would hurt, but I don't think this
should be twisted into some kind of social issue. I've seen my own
chapter torn apart over things just like this, and so I'm understandably
wary.

As to Mr. Putnam's lack of open-mindedness, I totally disagree, having
known him for five years now. He has the ability to be objective, rational,
and very thorough in all his work in the fraternity. He is a terrific
president of our organization, a fine brother, and will make a damn fine
delegate to the national convention. I hope that I have not offended
anyone: that was not my intention. However, I had to make my feelings
known.
