I ran out of time on my cap-access connection in sending my last message.
I also now realize that it was a little garbled, in part because of my own
typographical errors.
The bottom line is that our agreement achieves a number of objectives, all
of which are in APO's best interests. First, our very close and mutally
beneficial relationship with BSA is preserved. Second, the history of our
founding is not re-written in any way. Third, we honor BSA's request to
not hinder its ability to preserve its right to determine its own
leadership and membership standards. Fourth, we reaffirm our own
membership standards and inclusiveness. Fifth, we enhance our ability to
cooperate with other youth groups such as the Girl Scouts of the United
States of America.
And, I publicly want to thank the Chief Scout Executive for his good faith
and friendship. Our working relationship has never been better, and we
continue to work together to serve the youth of our nation.
I also want you all to understand that, because I believe that changes to
our bylaws, etc. should come from the actives, I have *never* proposed any
amendments before this. Further, no sitting President proposes amendments
lightly. It has happened only once in my recollection before this.
I end now, and appreciate your patience in reading messages that anyone
but a lawyer could have said much more succinctly! Your understanding and
support is greatly appreciated.
