It's APO[SOC]-L name tag time again.
For those of you who went to Nationals in Boston, you know what I'm
talking about; those who weren't there, I'll explain.
For a long while, APO-L subscribers penned in APO-L on their name
tags to identify themselves as being on APO-L. At the 92 Nationals in
Boston, for anyone who requested, I made them a hot-pink APO-L
name tag. The name tag was very visible, and tastefully done. There
was no APOSOC-L name tag at that time, just because.
For this Nationals, I'll be doing the name tags again; much of the
DFW 94 name tags will be similar to the Boston 92 name tags, but
there will be some obvious differences.
A bad ascii text representation of the DFW 94 tags looks like this:
+--------------------------------+ -
|alpha phi omega | ^
|national convention * D F W| |
| w w | |
|A P O - L ### 9 4| |
|A P O S O C - L | |
| | |
|aphio+@andrew.cmu.edu | 2.25"
| | |
| | |
| kappa | |
| carnegie mellon | |
| L A R R Y L O B S T E R | |
| mascot | v
+--------------------------------+ -
|<-------------3.5"------------->|
I've tried to represent the relative size of the text on the tag by
using a mixture of lower cases and whitespaces; the actual name tag
will be correctly type cased. I will not entertain requests for
redesign of the name tags because I generate these name tags by
hacking PostScript code, and it is neither a fun nor fast task.
In contrast to Boston in 92, I will NOT be supplying the little
plastic name tag holders. There are reasons for this:
o I try to use the clip on name tag holders instead of the pin on
name tag holders because it's easier to clip the APO-L name tag
on to my Nationals name tag, than it is to pin it on. The clip
on version is just plain easier to deal with.
o The clip on version is more expensive than the pin on version. I
supplied the name tag holders at Boston in 92 out my own wallet.
It gets expensive. (Although 2 people in Boston did reimburse me
for their name tags.)
o It will be more expensive this year because there probably are
more people on the two mailing lists.
Sorry. If anyone else wants to coordinate a bulk purchase of name tag
holders and sell/donate at DFW, feel free to do so. On my end, I will
provide the actual name tags on cardstock paper, and trimmed to size.
I provide name tag, you provide holder for name tag; ensure that you
get a CORRECTLY SIZED name tag holder.
The name tags will be distributed at DFW. Come look for me; I like to
meet the faces behind names that I type into my computer. I will be
arriving 27 Dec at 1439 on NW693. (People who meet me at the gate
with a "Galackiewicz" sign get extra credit, and their name tags
really early.) I will probably hang with Kappa chapter Carnegie
Mellon, or some other chapters in Region V.
Here's the meat: I need information from you to make the name tags.
SEND INFORMATION TO BE DIRECTLY; I may not pick it up off APO-L or
APOSOC-L since I regularly skip over posts if I get too busy at work.
My email address appears in my sig below. And please don't quote my
entire message back to me, all I want is the portion at the bottom
after the "cut here" line.
The information I want:
Subscribe to APO-L? If you answer in the affirmative, the words
APO-L will appear in the top left corner
of the name tag. Answer Yes, No, Y, or N.
Blank answer assumed to be N.
Subscribe to APOSOC-L? If you answer in the affirmative, the
words APOSOC-L will appear also.
Email address This is apparent; it will appear under
the APO[SOC]-L
Name You name as it will appear in the center
of the name tag.
Officer/Staff/Title If you are a chapter officer, part of
staff, or have a title of some sort (sgt
at arms, parlimentarian, etc) this will
appear under your name.
Chapter With which chapter are you affiliated. I
can only handle ONE chapter per person.
People with multiple affiliations
(transfers, initiated at one chapter and
is now advisor at another chapter, etc)
will have to decide on a single chapter.
The chapter name will appear above the
school name.
School The name of the school to which your chapter
belongs. The school name appears above
your name.
Give backrubs? If you answer in the affirmative, a
little "backrub logo" will appear to the
left of the "DFW 94" banner. In the
sample name tag above, it's the *, #, and
w. Since you are advertising the fact
that you do give backrubs, be prepared
for people to ask you for samples. For as
long as I remember, APhiO has always been
keen on backrubs, this gives you a chance
to practice your craft on people who want
to be practiced on, so this should yield a
mutually satisfying transaction. My
little brother has already asked if there
is a "receive backrub" logo. The answer
is NO, and will continue to be NO. D'ohhh!
:-( Sorry Debbie.
Late in November or early December, I will crosspost the list of
names and information to APO-L and APOSOC-L. That's a chance for
people to proof read their names and make sure that I've got
information entered correctly. Soon after that, the list and I go to
Kinko's.
Thanks for reading this long post.
