Well, I've been paying attention to all the hype about changing the toast
song on APO-L for awhile now, and I just thought it was time to send in
my $0.02 ...

Personally, I don't see any reason why the toast song needs to change.
It's merely a tradition within the chapter, which is intended to unite us
all as brothers of Alpha Phi Omega. It is sung at the end of every
meeting as all of the brothers join hands in a fellowship circle. No one
(among the brotherhood) is excluded from this fellowship circle, and no one
ever will be. The terminology used in the toast song is only the way it
is because it was written before 1976 (when women were formally admitted
as members). The attempts at changing the toast song is only a petty
move in the PC (politically correct) movement and really has no solid
ground. I have talked with many female brothers in my chapter (alpha
beta omega) and the majority have no problems with the toast song the way
it is, or even have any problems with being called a brother -- for that
matter.

Perhaps one of the reasons why I haven't seen a major problem with the
toast song in our chapter might have something to do with a unique "third
verse"; or actually more of an addendum, that our chapter adds on to the
toast song when we say (I guess we don't really sing it, but it's like a
chant) after we complete the second verse. And I will share it with
everyone to illustrate a point:

(after second verse)

Leadership, Friendship, Service;
Bound by a single tie.
Alpha Phi Omega,
May Alpha Beta Omega Chapter ever stand united!
                                        ------
                                        ^^
                                        emphasis here

Perhaps some brothers in Section 82 have heard us say this at a sectional
conference or meeting. This emphasizes the fact that we are ALL bound by
the single tie of Leadership, Friendship, and Service. We are ALL
brothers united in this cause to spread our service across the campuses
of the US and the World. It doesn't matter what we sing in the toast
song, the fact remains that we are all together in service whether we are
black, white, asian, european, gay, straight, male, female, christian,
jew, moslem, or whatever. So let's forget about changing the toast song
so that we can get down to what this fraternity was meant for -- SERVICE
for the betterment of society.

PS - If anyone really doesn't like the toast song the way it is, you can
always try Omega Phi Alpha ...
