There are few more fun genres in the world of video games than the cryptic tease, a sort of nonannouncement that major publishers have honed into a clumsy art over the past few years. Last night we got a weird one indeed a quick video on Tiwtter from Blizzard featuring a Diablo nightlight that someone kept switching on and off. Get it Switching. Many took this to be a tease for an upcoming Switch port for Diablo 3. The real situation might be more complicated, or, to be honest, it might not be.
Regardless, the race to port games to the Switch doesnt seem to be slowing down any time soon, and its likely that the console will assemble to best firstyear library in gaming history. Diablo 3 would make an excellent addition that would be sure to sell well to both current Diablo fans and curious Switch owners. For now, however, it looks like were waiting.
The only problem I can think of is that Diablo 3 is a very much an onlineforward game, and Nintendos online services are both a mystery and a weakness at the very least it seems unlikely that were going to get a much better solution for voice chat the current labyrinthian system that runs a pair of headphones through your phone and into the Switch.
Already, IoT technologies such as radio frequency identification (RFID) tags are being used to track inventory in retail, which helps to prevent loss and optimize logistics. In the business world, companies can combine occupancy sensors, wearable devices and calendar software to keep track of employees and meeting spaces.
It helps that Diablo 3 is a natural fit for the Switch. Not only is it an older game thats nonetheless still under active development, its already both to lastgen and currentgen consoles theres no reason to think that the Switchs hardware wouldnt be able to handle the game. On top of that, Blizzard emphasized local multiplayer in its original Xbox 360 and PS3 ports, and the Switch is arguably the best local multiplayer machine on the market. Theres also something about the instant gratification and longterm grind of the game that fits well with the Switchs instanton, instantoff proposition.
