For those who might be interested, below is an another way of showing
concern about the prospect of war. If you're interested in something
of this sort, but preferring a service more appropriate to your faith,
I encourage you to organize one.

The short of it:
Prayer meeting, Killian, 10 pm
The motivation for it:
I think I've decided that I will not walk out of my classes today.
This might surprise some of you, as I've been wholeheartedly against
war ever since Bush started making war noises. I've gone to protests,
written letters, and encouraged others to do the same. There are
people I love in the Middle East right now, both because they live
there and because our government has sent them there. On top of that,
a number of people I love also have friends and family in that part of
the world. I am loathe to see harm come to any of these men and women
and wish with all my heart that war could have been prevented, that a
peaceful resolution could have happened.
I've been doing some reading, though, because I don't want to be
questioned about my opinion and be unable to give a coherent, logical
answer. There have been a number of articles I've read that have
challenged my views. I am now no longer sure that I am right.
Instead of walking out on classes, I will try to gather people who
feel similarly to me for a prayer vigil tonight. It will be an
explicitly denominational meeting, and I make no apologies for that. I
intend to welcome anyone who wants to participate, regardless of
religious persuasion, but if it offends you that I will pray to the
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, please do not attend. Unless I post
otherwise, Killian court, at ten pm.
Among other things, I intend to pray for the safety of servicemen and
women, both American and Iraqi, for the health and safety of civilians
in Iraq, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia, and for understanding and
enlightenment on the part of world leaders involved in diplomatic
negotiations at all levels. I will try my best to leave out politics
and not to choose an explicitly pro- or anti-war position.
Peace,
Benazeer
