Just to comment on that, look up this guy: Stuart Schmill.

Look at where he works.
Now, look at his username: "stucrew". Look at his homepage listed: it used
to be the homepage on the entire MIT crew team, in fact he used to be a
crew coach and the boathouse director. And this is just one obvious example
of how there might be some influence.
