So, my MIT card's magstripe has died gradually over the past month or
so, and I went in today to get a new card. I noticed afterwards the the
new card expired in June of 2005, while my old card expired in September
of 2005. I called them, and they said it was because of a new Registrar
policy that says seniors only retain their student status until June,
and there was nothing they could do about it. All new cards issued
expire in June instead of September. They referred me to the Dean of
Student Life, and I just emailed him about this.
So, if you're an upperclassman thinking about getting a new MIT Card
because your old one doesn't work too well, think twice before you
actually get it replaced. If you've run into this problem already, or
you just think this new policy is a bad idea in general, I encourage you
to express your opinion to the Dean of Student Life. Maybe if enough
people complain, they'll actually do something about it.
