."The
report -- subtitled "How Assistant Attorney General Thomas Perez manipulated
Justice and Ignored Rule of Law" -- was a joint effort by
minority leaders of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Republican-led
House's Judiciary and Oversight and Government Reform committees."The facts
surrounding this quid pro quo show that Perez may have exceeded the
scope of the ethics and professional-responsibility opinions he received
from the department and thereby violated his duties of loyalty and confidentiality
to the United States. Perez also misled senior Justice Department officials
about the quid pro quo," the report states. But congressional Democrats put
out a statement and memo of their own late Sunday refuting the
details. The statement said the "overwhelming evidence" indicates Perez and
others "acted professionally to advance the interests of civil rights and
effectively combat the scourge of discrimination in housing." They said
the decision not to intervene in the suit against St. Paul was
based on expert recommendations."Instead of identifying inappropriate conduct
by Mr. Perez, it appears that the accusations against him are part
of a broader political campaign to undermine the legal safeguards against
discrimination that Mr. Perez was protecting," they said.

The Google.com/glass microsite from the web giant offers specs and images
of the forthcoming Google Gass product, such as this one.GoogleApr. 4, 2012:
Google's Android-powered, augmented-reality glasses would show maps, video
chats, photographs, and even allow the user to shop online -- all
at the blink of an eye.GoogleGoogle co-founder Sergey Brin demonstrating
Google's new Glass -- wearable internet glasses -- at the Google I/O
conference in San Francisco in 2012.AP Photo/Paul SakumaGoogle has released
the tech specs for its Google Glasses after shipping its first batch
to developers today. So without further ado, here's what you need to
know. The glasses contain a five megapixel camera for photos but films in
720p.They contain 12 GB of usable memory which is synced with Google
cloud storage and contains 16 GB of flash memory in total. The glasses
are supported by Wi-Fi and Bluetooth but surprisingly not by 3G, which
may be a drawback in the short term. The glasses are compatible with
any Bluetooth supported phone; the MyGlass companion app, however -- which
enables GPS and SMS messaging -- requires Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
to work. The battery should last about a day during "typical use" however
features like Google Hangouts and video recording will drain the battery
more quickly. The list of specs are missing one crucial thing: a price.
Just imagine a number that is more than you can afford. You're
probably not far off.However,

<p style="font-size:xx-small;"> , but nothing has happened.Indeed, proposals to
sell TVA date back to soon after the agency was created in
1933 to reduce the risk of flooding in the region and bring
electricity to rural communities in poor areas of Appalachia. It was a
key part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal program, which used
government spending to help the nation recover from the Great Depression.President
Dwight Eisenhower called TVA "creeping socialism," while President Ronald
Reagan criticized it as an example of big government. Republicans from Barry
Goldwater to Newt Gingrich have pointed to the TVA as an example
of where the private sector could provide services more cheaply and effectively
than bureaucrats.Republican antipathy for the TVA led many in the Southeast
to assume that any proposal to sell TVA would come from the
GOP -- not a Democratic president fresh off winning a second term. The
privatization proposal "is making our heads spin here in Tennessee," said
Stephen Smith, executive director of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy,
a nonprofit group that promotes alternative energy throughout the region."For
the first time that I'm aware of, you've got a Democratic administration
proposing the sale of TVA and simultaneously you've got significant, conservative
federal representatives in the House and Senate defending their local socialist
project," Smith said. "There's a lot irony in it and little bit
of humor actually."A White House s

lights and sirens, along with more than 1,000 counterterrorism
officers. Highly trafficked areas like the Empire State building, Rockefeller
Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral, the United Nations and the World Trade
Center site were being especially monitored.Mayor Michael Bloomberg said
the police department was fully prepared to protect the city."Some of the
security steps we are taking may be noticeable," Bloomberg said. "And others
will not be."In Washington, Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano
urged the American public "to be vigilant and to listen to directions
from state and local officials."At the White House, the Secret Service expanded
its security perimeter after the attacks, shutting down Pennsylvania Avenue
and cordoning off the area with yellow police tape. Several Secret Service
patrol cars blocked off entry points, although the White House was not
on lockdown and tourists and other onlookers were still allowed in the
park across the street. In California, emergency management officials activated
their statewide threat assessment system, which was established after the
Sept. 11 attacks. In Seattle, police increased patrols in neighborhoods and
around government buildings and other facilities. In Colorado, a statewide
alert was sent out advising law enforcement agencies to look out for
suspicious activities. And at the Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach, as
well as at three major Los Angeles airports,
