WASHINGTON Republican lawmakers took turns Thursday grilling the TSA over
questionable decisions it made including a $50 million contract for new
uniforms -- around the same time it told the public it was
facing severe budget cuts from the government sequester.Members of the House
Committee on Oversight and Government Reform took Deputy Administrator John
Halinski to task over his agencys handling of the sequester. They said
the TSA knew in advance of the looming cuts and should have
planned accordingly. You hijacked the agency and turned it into the worst
example of a bureaucratic mess, Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., chided.Committee
members pressed Halinski over a controversial $50 million contract the TSA
signed with VF Imagewear Inc. for new uniforms for its workers. Critics
say the cosmetic change was not needed and a waste of taxpayer
money. Lawmakers said they had problems with the agency shelling out so
much money for uniforms that could be manufactured in Mexico. According
to VF Imagewear, Inc.s annual report, the company manufactures clothing
in Mexico, Europe, Central and South America, the Caribbean and the Middle
East. The contract was signed on Feb. 27 and is a one-year deal
that would outfit TSA agents with shirts, pants and other uniform-related
accessories. Security officers get a $446 allowance for uniforms each year.In
2010, the TSA spent $12 million on uniforms; in 2011, $10.9 million
and in 2012, $12.8 million. According t
t
a number of ethically troubled Republicans, and said the NRCC best be
ready to walk away from theses scandal-plagued Republicans next. But the
long list of political and ethical wrongdoing isnt confined to one party.Democrats
are up to their ears with controversial candidates, Republican strategist
Ron Bonjean told FoxNews.com. Before he (Ferguson) throws a stone, he should
probably stop and realize he lives in a glass house.Calls to Ferguson
for comment were not immediately returned. Both Republicans and Democrats
have been battling bad behavior from their candidates for decades and have
had to choose who to support and who to cut off.Despite Thursdays
statement, the DCCC has found itself in the same position before. In June
2011, DCCC Chairman Steve Israel, for instance, called on New York Rep.
Anthony Weiner to step down from his congressional seat after he was
caught and then later admitted to sending sexually suggestive pictures of
himself to women.Anthonys inappropriate behavior has become an insurmountable
distraction to the House and our work for the American people, Israel
said at the time. With a heavy heart, I call on Anthony
to resign. I pray for his family and hope that Anthony will
take time to get the help he needs without the distractions and
added pressures of Washington, D.C.In October 2010, Tennessee House candidate
Roy Herron said the DCCC was pulling funding support after he said
he wouldnt support Rep. Nancy Pelos

good news for American homeowners. HARP
has been extended through 2015. That's a
good thing. The bad thing is that mortgage
rates most likely won't stay as low as they
are for very long. At some point, once rates
rise, the ability to save money with HARP
may be diminished.

The average savings from a HARP refinance is
around $200 a month with an average rate
reduction of 1.75%, resulting in $2,400
savings per closed loan per year and $74,000
per lifetime (assuming a 30-year mortgage).
But for those homeowners needing a personal
stimulus, filing out a form or picking up
the phone again is well worth it.
