I'd have killed for a 10 dollar a month T pass... and no matter what
Rand says, there's nothing wrong with shafting a large number of people
for the common good.
I bet that pretty good chunk of shut-ins might actually go to locations
outside of Cambridge if they had T passes.
Certainly, I don't see why this is not rolled into tuition, for
financial aid purposes; an opt out waiver of some sort might also work
(but it increases the effort (thus expense) MIT has to put in, which
they might not want.
Seriously, if you have a problem with having a 10 dollar T pass, sell it
on Craiglist. You'll be able to afford several weeks of ramen as a
result of your profits.
The difference between this and student life fees, mandatory insurance,
mandatory dining, etc, is that you get a physical object in return,
which can be traded for money or other goods and services.
Really, if you are in as bad financial shape as you indicate, you should
have thought of the profit potential in this plan upon hearing of it.
You stand to earn about 10-15 dollars per month if this program gets
implemented.
