UNDATED: The Alabama State House in Montgomery, Ala., is shown.APMONTGOMERY,
Ala. The Alabama Legislature is telling the federal government and others
to back off on gun control. The Senate passed legislation Tuesday declaring
that All federal acts, laws, orders, rules or regulations regarding firearms
are a violation of the Second Amendment. It also says federal laws
in violation of the Second Amendment shall be considered null and void
in Alabama. The vote was 24-6.The sponsor, Republican Sen. Paul Sanford
of Huntsville, said the bill resulted from hundreds of emails and calls
he received from his north Alabama constituents concerned that Congress
might enact new gun regulations or restore the previous ban on assault
weapons. He said the assault weapon ban is an example of federal
regulation that he considers a violation of the Second Amendment.Democratic
Sen. Bobby Singleton of Greensboro, who voted against the measure, said
state law cant trump federal law. This bill is null and void
on its face, Singleton said.In the House Tuesday, members voted 76-22 for
a proposed constitutional amendment that would require Alabamas courts to
use strict scrutiny when reviewing any new gun control laws. That would
require proponents of the laws to show a compelling interest for the
regulations and that they be narrowly tailored. The Second Amendment bill
sponsored by Republican Rep. Mike Jones of Andalusia was part of the

and banter, there is a much more ominous, darker tone at play
here. Topical villain The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) is the head of a
terrorist cell who are detonating bombs across America. By taking over the
TV airwaves, The Mandarin spreads fear across the nation, bringing the country
to its knees. When Starks former bodyguard and friend, Happy (Jon Favreau)
is injured during a bombing and his girlfriend Pepper (Gwyneth Paltrow)
is abducted, things get personal for Iron Man and he goes on
the hunt to find a terrorist who hides behind a television camera.Iron
Man 3 is a breeze, not wasting a moment during its two-hour
runtime. This certainly isnt writer-director Shane Blacks first rodeo, and
he pulls out all the stops. The spitfire dialogue is often hilarious,
in great part due to Downeys impeccable delivery. The action set pieces
are as spectacular as one would expect in an Iron Man film,
especially the climactic battle on an oil rig where a plethora of
Iron Men duke it out. But what keeps this Iron Man from
bleeding into the amoeba of superhero films is a large portion with
Tony Stark sans-Iron Man suit au natural, if you will
using his wit and intelligence to solve a mystery. Stark, broken and
anxiety-ridden from the events that transpired in New York City during The
Avengers, is left to his own human devices on a mystery manhunt
for The Mandarin. This dilemma makes the challenges more

<p style="font-size:xx-small;"> APTurnout was relatively light across Massachusetts on Tuesday as voters
chose which Republican and Democratic candidates will win their party primaries
and go on to campaign in the state's second special U.S. Senate
election in four years. The race to fill Secretary of State John Kerry's
former seat has been overshadowed by the Boston bombings, though turnout
in the city was running slightly ahead of another special U.S. Senate
primary three years ago in part because of an additional local race
on Tuesday's ballot, the state's top elections official said.Even before
the bombings, the campaign had failed to capture the attention of voters
compared with the 2010 special election following the death of longtime
Sen. Edward Kennedy. Former Republican Sen. Scott Brown won the seat but
was ousted last year in another high-profile race by Democratic challenger
Elizabeth Warren. Two Democrats, both members of the state's congressional
delegation, and three Republicans are vying for their parties' nominations.A
win would help Senate Democrats maintain a caucus edge of 55-45 as
they press forward on major issues like immigration and gun control. The
Boston Marathon bombs disrupted the political race, forcing the candidates
to temporarily suspend their campaigns. The bombings also brought national
security and terrorism issues to the fore in an election that was
expected to turn on questions of the economy, gun control, taxes, immigration
and aborti
 our health. Under Obama's
overhaul, insurers will no longer be able to turn away the sick,
or charge them more. The health care questions will disappear, but they'll
be replaced by questions about your income. Consumers who underestimate
their incomes could be in for an unwelcome surprise later on in
the form of smaller tax refunds."Consumers will have a simple, easy-to-understand
way to apply for health coverage later this year," said Medicare chief
Marilyn Tavenner, also overseeing the rollout of the health care law. She
said the application is "significantly shorter than industry standards."Among
the sections eliminated in the new form was one that asked applicants
if they also wanted to register to vote. Some congressional Republicans
had criticized that, calling it politically motivated. The Associated Press
contributed to this report.
