Anthony Weiner announces his resignation from Congress during a news conference
in Brooklyn, New York, Thursday, June 16, 2011. (AP)AP2011Former Rep. Anthony
Weiner is laying the groundwork for a political comeback, possibly as a
startling addition to this years mayoral race, sources said yesterday.Political
insiders were abuzz at news that Weiner and his wife, Huma Abedin,
had granted a lengthy magazine interview for the first time since his
resignation in an embarrassing sexting scandal in 2011.The magazine piece
is step one of a two-step process for him to run citywide
this year, said one Democratic Party source.Hes looking at public advocate
and comptroller, but he really thinks he can use this to get
back in and run for mayor.Weiner issued a terse no comment when
asked about his plans.Weiner has $4.3 million left in his campaign account,
including $248,710 that would be matched 6-to-1 under the public-financing
system.A second source said Weiner has been contacting former staffers to
prepare for his re-entry into politics.Weiners entry into the Democratic
primary for mayor would make it more difficult for any of the
five candidates now in the race to get at least 40 percent
of the vote and avoid a runoff.Click for more from NYPost.com.
Shoppers at a Target store in Brooklyn say a label that listed
the color of a plus-size dress as "manatee gray" was insulting. The label
for the same dress in smaller sizes described it as "dark heather
gray."Target apologized for the label.Michelle Ho, shopping at the store
at Atlantic Terminal Mall, told the New York Post that Target was
"putting down one set of people over another" with the different labels.Spokeswoman
Jessica Deede called the labeling of the Mossimo-brand "Women's Plus-Size
Kimono Maxi Dress" ''an unintentional oversight."She said although manatee
gray was a seasonal color, Target was "fixing the discrepancy." She said
the item was removed from the company website.

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">as a genuine Renoir.Last year, Fuqua planned to have the painting
sold at auction, where it was expected to fetch at least $75,000.
But the auction was postponed after it was learned that the Baltimore
Museum of Art reported the painting stolen in 1951. Records show an
insurer, the Fireman's Fund, paid a $2,500 claim on the theft. The insurer
says it is now the rightful owner, based on payment of that
claim.According to an appraisal commissioned by the FBI, Renoir painted
"Paysage bords de Seine," or On the Shore of the Seine, on
a linen napkin in 1879 on the spot at a riverside restaurant
for his mistress. The appraiser says the Renoir's value is about $22,000,
much less than the auction house estimated, because Renoir's paintings have
fallen out of favor with some art collectors who consider them old
fashioned and because questions about the painting's ownership and possible
theft diminish its value to collectors.Fuqua, who had managed to remain
anonymous until the court case was filed, told the FBI under penalty
of perjury that she bought the painting at a flea market in
Harpers Ferry, W. Va., never believing the painting to be a true
Renoir, even though a plate reading "RENOIR" is attached to the frame.
She describes herself as an "innocent buyer" and questions the FBI's authority
to seize the painting."Because I am not an art historian, collector, appraiser,
or dealer, I lacked the expertise to identify the Renoir Painting's authenti
er, an honor often bestowed on up-and-coming
members of the U.S. foreign service."There are no words for anyone to
describe the extraordinary harsh contradiction for a young 25-year-old woman,
with all of her future ahead of her, believing in the possibilities
of diplomacy to improve people's lives, making a difference, having an impact"
to be killed, Kerry said.Smedinghoff previously served in Venezuela."The
world lost a truly beautiful soul today," her parents, Tom and Mary
Beth Smedinghoff, said in a family statement emailed to The Washington Post."Working
as a public diplomacy officer, she particularly enjoyed the opportunity
to work directly with the Afghan people and was always looking for
opportunities to reach out and help to make a difference in the
lives of those living in a country ravaged by war," they said.
"We are consoled knowing that she was doing what she loved, and
that she was serving her country by helping to make a positive
difference in the world."Kerry declared the protection of American diplomats
a top priority on his first day as secretary of state. The issue
has been extremely sensitive since Chris Stevens, the U.S. ambassador to
Libya, and three other Americans were killed in Benghazi almost seven months
ago. No one has yet been brought to justice.
