Hey Andrew, something occurred to me just now, and I wanted to ask you 
about it.

You sent this announcement at 1am on Wednesday.  The deadline you gave 
was 11 hours from the announcement.  Given that most MIT students are 
asleep during that period, that gives a potential applicant 
approximately 3 hours to read your email, decide whether or not to 
apply, look over the list of committees, decide which to apply to, and 
fill out your seven short-answer questions.  And that's assuming that 
this person had nothing better to do and didn't have to look up anything 
or call anyone to see if they would potentially have any time conflicts 
with serving on an institute committee.

Did you send an earlier announcement to mailing lists of which I am not 
a member?
