Nah, since I was only targeting undergraduates there was no need to send 
e-mails to both undergrads@mit.edu (which undergrads cannot unsubscribe 
from) and the discuss lists simultaneously. To cut down on traffic to 
that list after already sending multiple e-mails on the subject, I 
thought that it would be appropriate to send out a reminder to 
undergrads via the discuss lists right before the deadline for 
applications. The technique has generally seemed to work as we received 
on the order of 120 applications this year, up from around 70 in years 
prior.
