Petitions are tough, and my experience has taught me that admins
really don't care about petitions or surveys. Also, notice how this
information leaks out in the summer, when many community members are
not around and leadership can't effectively mobilize. This is
probably not a mistake.
I'd push them to hold off the decision until you can get real feedback
from the student body and simultaneously push for the committee I
mentioned earlier. You can hold this up as an example for a need for
transparency.
