ARLINGTON, Texas A woman died Friday evening in an accident while
riding the Texas Giant roller coaster at a Six Flags amusement park
in North Texas, authorities said. The accident happened just after 6:30 p.m.
Friday at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington. Park spokeswoman Sharon Parker
confirmed that a woman died while riding the coaster at Six Flags
Over Texas in Arlington but did not specify how she was killed.-
mother's family says, according to witnessesA family in line behind the
woman who fell told MyFoxDFW.com that she was on the ride with
her daughter and son-in-law. The family said her seat restraint seemed to
go down normally before the car left. They said when the train
came back, the seat restraint was down. The family said the woman's daughter
and son-in-law were calling for help. They were screaming, "We need to
go get my mom!"Witnesses told local media outlets that the woman fell
from the ride, which is billed as the tallest steel-hybrid roller coaster
in the world."She goes up like this. Then when it drops to
come down, that's when it (the safety bar) released and she just
tumbled," said Carmen Brown of Arlington. Brown said she was waiting in
line to get on the ride when the accident happened."They didn't secure
her right. One of the employees from the park -- one of
the ladies -- she asked her to click her more than once,
and they were like, `As long you heard it click, you're OK.'
Everybody else is like, `Click, clic
ing state."It's a legacy
that I embrace and that I'm not going to run away from,"
Bush told The Associated Press in an interview during a recent visit
to the affluent Dallas suburb of Frisco. "But certainly, in this campaign,
I have to identify myself and talk about my own track record."That
isn't always easy.People want to know how often he calls assorted relatives
for advice and what sleeping at the White House was like. Political
observers wonder if the Spanish-speaker who offers a unique blend of Republican
royalty and Hispanic heritage can slow what looks like Texas' inevitable
demographic slide toward a Democratic-leaning state. His mother, Columba,
is from Mexico.Jeremy Bird, who helped President Barack Obama win re-election
last year by using data analysis to tailor voter mobilization to the
most promising areas, helped tilt Nevada and Colorado to the Democrats in
the 2012 presidential race. Now, Bird and other Obama veterans are leading
Battleground Texas, a group that hopes to do the same thing in
Texas."This is something not to be taken lightly. It's a well-capitalized,
well-financed group that's intent on developing a long term strategy. That's
problematic," Bush said. "It's going to require more for candidates like
myself and people from the party to step up their game. Not
necessarily change our principles, but change our tactics."He said Republicans
will have to recruit more Spanish-speakers, campaign more frequently alon

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">lth law is wide of
the mark."Every voter knows what Republicans are against. They don't know
what they're for" on health care, said Rep. Steve Israel of New
York, who heads House Democrats' campaign committee. He said the strategy
would haunt Republicans next year among moderate and independent voters
who want changes, not outright repeal. The fate of legislation to put more
funds into high-risk pools demonstrated a belief among some Republicans
that they should advance alternatives. Polling presentations make the same
point but are not uniformly persuasive among the rank and file, according
to officials, and lawmakers' speeches sometimes make it sound as if the
health law is disintegrating on its own.Yet one prominent conservative,
Ramesh Ponnuru, warned recently that it was a "perverse complacency" to
do nothing while assuming the health law will implode."We can be sure
that the Left would respond to any such collapse by making the
case for a `single payer' program in which the federal government directly
provides everyone insurance," he wrote May 30 in National Review Online.Ponnuru
added that in some Republican circles, "the idea that an alternative is
necessary is seen as a mark of wimpiness, a weakness for big-government
programs that are just slightly" weaker than what Democrats possess. The
Associated Press contributed to this report.
Helen Thomas, a pioneer for women in journalism, has died at age
92.The irrepressible White House correspondent who used her seat in the
front row to grill 10 presidents -- often to their discomfort and
was not shy about sharing her opinions -- died at her apartment
in Washington.Thomas had been ill for a long time and in and
out of the hospital before coming home Thursday, said friend Muriel Dobbin.
She made her name as a bulldog for United Press International in
the great wire-service rivalries of old and as a pioneer for women
in journalism.Thomas was persistent to the point of badgering. One White
House press secretary described her questioning as "torture" -- and he was
one of her fans. Her refusal to conceal her strong opinions, even when
posing questions to a president, and her public hostility toward Israel,
caused discomfort among colleagues. In 2010, that tendency ended a career
that had started in 1943 and made her one of the best
known journalists in Washington. On a videotape circulated on the Internet,
she said Israelis should "get out of Palestine" and "go home" to
Germany, Poland or the United States. The remark brought down widespread
condemnation and she resigned. In January 2011, she became a columnist for
a free weekly paper in a Washington suburb, months after the controversy
forced her from her previous post.In her long career, she was indelibly
associated with the ritual ending White House news conferences. She was
