April 30, 2013: Democratic U.S. Senate hopeful, Mass. Rep. Edward Markey,

Democratic U.S. Rep. Edward Markey and Republican former Navy SEAL Gabriel
Gomez won their party primaries on Tuesday, setting up a race between
a 36-year veteran of Washington politics and a political newcomer for the
U.S. Senate seat formerly held by John Kerry.Markey defeated fellow U.S.
Rep. Stephen Lynch in the Democratic primary while Gomez, who's also a
businessman, bested former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan and state Rep.
Daniel Winslow in the GOP primary, according to unofficial returns. The
special election is scheduled for June 25.The race to fill the seat
Kerry left to become U.S. secretary of state has been overshadowed by
the deadly Boston Marathon bombing, and the candidates had to temporarily
suspend their campaigns.Even before the April 15 bombing, the campaign had
failed to capture the attention of voters compared with the 2010 special
election following the death of longtime Democratic Sen. Edward Kennedy.
Former Republican Sen. Scott Brown won the seat, surprising Democrats, but
was ousted last year in another high-profile race by Democratic challenger
Elizabeth Warren.Markey, 66, led all the other candidates in fundraising
and had won the backing early on of Kerry and a large
segment of the Democratic establishment. Lynch, a South Boston conservative

President Obama said he is unaware of longstanding efforts by Republican
lawmakers to question survivors of the Benghazi attacks but pledged to investigate
the issue.Im not familiar with this notion that anybody has been blocked
from testifying, the president said during a White House news conference
on Tuesday. So what Ill do is I will find out what
exactly youre referring to.Obamas pledge to find out more came as officials
at the State Department pushed back against allegations -- first aired Monday
on Fox News -- that career employees at the agency have been
threatened if they furnish new information about the Benghazi attacks to
members of Congress. The State Department is deeply committed to meeting
its obligation to protect employees, and the State Department would never
tolerate -- tolerate or sanction -- retaliation against whistle-blowers
on any issue, including this one, spokesman Patrick Ventrell told reporters
at a briefing on Tuesday. Thats an obligation we take very seriously
-- full stop.Four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens,
were killed in terrorist attacks on U.S. installations in the port city
of Benghazi, Libya, on the night of Sept. 11, 2012. While the
FBI investigation into the attacks continues, no known instances of any
perpetrators being brought to justice have yet been reported.Rep. Darrell
Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee,

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">an eagerness to play around without
knowing what exactly to do. The lesson: Read the directions.Tap the touch-sensitive
temple piece or simply tilt your head up and the screen activates,
displaying the time and two words: Ok Glass. Speak them aloud and
the voice-activated device gives you a menu with a few simple options:
Google, take a picture, record a video, get directions, send a message,
make a call, hang out.Ask the device to Google something and, thanks
to a Bluetooth link to your smartphone or the built-in Wi-Fi, it
will search the Web almost immediately. I tried Googling the length of
the Golden Gate bridge (8,980 feet), how to say I love you
in Japanese (Watashi wa anata o aishite), and checking the weather (No,
it isnt raining in New York, the weather is 58 and clear). The
future is a robotic voice literally telling me to skip the raincoat,
apparently.Pictures with Glass are reasonably good; it has a 5 megapixel
camera, comparable to that of a newish smartphone. Thats not the greatest
quality, but it works. I immediately found myself wanting to edit images,
crop out the backgrounds and boost the colors. You can do that
all on Google+, of course, but theres little interface directly through
Glass itself. The real charm of Glass comes in sharing, however, not touching
your temples. Glass integrates deeply with Google+, which youre probably
a member of already, like it or not. Its no Facebook, sure,
but it does have tens of mill
ions of users.Using the simple MyGlass
smartphone app, you can configure the Google+ sharing features on Glass:
Which of your contacts you want ready access to, which groups you
want to share videos and pictures to, and so on. For what
its worth, Google+ actually does social networking better than Facebook
in some ways, and sharing pics with groups and individuals is as
easy as taking them.On the other hand, social networking is both a
Glass strength and its Achilles Heel: Everyone I saw while wearing Glass
stared, then eventually asked me if I was recording them. Are we
live right now? Is this online? For the record, no, Glass is not
violating your privacy. No, it is not surreptitiously recording you. No,
it does not do face recognition. No, I am not seeing through
your clothing. While Googles wild invention does raise those questions, the
device is designed to skirt them all: To start recording a video
or snap a shot, you need to actively turn it on. And
theres no red light on the front to indicate activity, but whoever
youre speaking with should be able to see the active screen. And Google
told me face recognition would require some processing power thats simply
out of the question, at least for now. That said, what it does
do is tantalize. Want directions? There they are. Want to share a
picture of your trip? Done. Need a fact to wow a dinner
party? There it is.Just dont wear Glass during the dinner party. At
least, thats what my wi
