atives gained access to
the family's property in Groveland, just 26 miles from the park's entrance,
on Saturday and was able to confirm their vacation cabin had burned
to the ground. The family saw firefighters on a TV news report a
day earlier defending the cabin."It's just mind-blowing the way the fire
swept through and destroyed it so quickly," said Sanderson, who's been monitoring
the fire from her home near Tampa Bay, Fla. "The only thing
left standing is our barbeque pit."The Rim Fire has burned nearly 200
square miles -- an area about the size of Chicago. It started
in a remote canyon of the Stanislaus National Forest Aug. 17 and
is just 5 percent contained. Its cause was under investigation. The fire
has grown so large and is burning dry timber and brush with
such ferocity that it has created its own weather pattern, making it
difficult to predict in which direction it will move."As the smoke column
builds up it breaks down and collapses inside of itself, sending downdrafts
and gusts that can go in any direction," said Daniel Berlant, a
spokesman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
"There's a lot of potential for this one to continue to grow."The
tourist mecca of Yosemite Valley, the part of the park known around
the world for such sights as the Half Dome and El Capitan
rock formations and waterfalls, remained open, clear of smoke and free from
other signs of the fire that remained about 20 miles away.
WASHINGTON The Pentagon says U.S. Central Command and the Jordanian Armed
Forces are co-hosting Mideast defense chiefs in Jordan over the next few
days to discuss the region's security environment. The chairman of the Joint
Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Martin Dempsey, is attending. The meeting, planned
since June, comes as the U.S. and other nations ponder what action
to take, if any, in the wake of reports that the Syrian
government has used chemical weapons in its civil war. Although Syria denies
such claims, they are certain to be a leading topic for the
gathering.A Defense Department spokesman, George Little, says the exchange
is designed in part to increase the collective understanding of the impact
of regional conflicts on nations. The conference is set for Sunday to Tuesday.

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">BAGHDAD An Iranian dissident group is accusing Iraqi authorities of cutting
off water and electricity to a contested northern camp for Iranian exiles,
a charge the Iraqi government denies. The Mujahedeen-e-Khalq dissident group
says authorities cut off the services to Camp Ashraf in northeast Iraq
more than two weeks ago, and alleges that Iraqi forces are now
hauling off pieces of the water system.Georges Bakoos oversees the issue
for the Iraqi government and on Sunday dismissed the dissident group's allegations
as "propaganda." He acknowledges there are occasional power cuts at the
camp but says that is no different from other parts of Iraq,
where the electricity supply is spotty.Baghdad wants to shut Camp Ashraf
and move remaining residents to a Baghdad-area camp before relocating them
abroad.

headquarters. A former foreign policy adviser to President Barack Obama,
Power succeeds Susan Rice, now the president's national security adviser.
(AP Photo/Mark Garten, United Nations)AP2013U.S. Ambassador to the United
Nations Samantha Power was unable to make it back from a personal
trip in Ireland to New York in time for an emergency Security
Council meeting, according to sources who spoke with Fox News. But a
quick search of flight databases shows that on an average day, dozens
of flights leave from the Emerald Isle to New York.A simple search
made by FoxNews.com showed that up to 20 flights leave from Dublin
airport to JFK airport in Queens, N.Y., -- with more than half
arriving well before 3 p.m. ET, which is when the Security Council
meeting was held this past Wednesday. While the meeting was publicly announced
at noon that day, it is likely that Power and the Security
Council had already known about the alleged chemical gas attack that occurred
in Syria, leaving open the possibility that she could have caught a
flight. On an average weekday in the month of August, a total
of 15 flights leave from Dublin airport to JFK, with 10 arriving
before the scheduled meeting time.At least one flight bound for JFK on
Wednesday had a d
