Stephen Keshi has called up a total of 42 players made up
of 24 from the local league and 18 from overseas for a
World Cup qualifier against Malawi next month.Only five of the 24 players
from the domestic championship will eventually join the 18 overseas-based
stars for the qualifier, as well as for a friendly against Burkina
Faso in Kaduna on September 10.Goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim, defenders Azubuike
Egwuekwe, Solomon Kwambe and Benjamin Francis, as well as midfielders Sunday
Mba and forward Gambo Mohammed headline the locally-based contingent."We
are calling up 24 home boys in order to be able to
identify new players for the 2014 African Nations Championship, for which
we have already qualified," said Keshi.Goalkeepers Vincent Enyeama and Austin
Ejide, defenders Efe Ambrose and Elderson Echiejile, midfielders Mikel Obi,

http://www.facebook.com/denver.booneIs a cartoon-like college mascot reminiscent
of Daniel Boone -- right down to the legendary coonskin cap --
racist, sexist or otherwise offensive?Officials at the University of Denver
seem to think so. Theyve announced they wont reinstate Denver Boone, who
was retired in 1998 as mascot for the UD Pioneers, despite calls
to bring him back.Boone originally had been replaced by a red-tailed hawk
named Ruckus but the bird never soared high with the student body
and was scrapped in 2007, leaving the school without a mascot. Fast
forward and the school decided to put together a committee last spring
to determine the new mascot, but Boone was not even considered.Boone was
a polarizing figure that did not reflect the growing diversity of the
UD community, but rather was an image that many women, persons of
color, international students and faculty members found difficult to relate
to as defining the pioneering spirit, Chancellor Robert Coombe said in a
March letter to the school community.University officials also claim that
Boone was not up for consideration because of a consensus by the
student body that it wanted an entirely new mascot despite numerous
Facebook postings to the contrary. It was really about moving forward, Theresa
Mueller, a spokeswoman for the University of Denver, told FoxNews.com. The
students wanted a new mascot and didnt want to look towards the
past.Mueller added that they intend togi

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">MEXICO CITY The Mexican government has lowered its forecast for the
nation's economic growth this year to 1.8 percent. That's down from the
3.1 percent gain it predicted earlier this year. The National Statistics
Institute says the country's GDP expanded only 1.5 percent in the second
quarter of 2013, compared to the same quarter of 2012.Compared to the
first quarter, GDP actually contracted 0.74 percent in the April-June period.
Growth for the first half of 2013 averaged 1 percent, due to
weakness in the mining and construction sectors. The Finance Department said
Tuesday that the fundamentals of Mexico's economy remain solid and that
growth should pick up.
MEXICO CITY The Mexican government's human rights commission has issued
a recommendation calling for federal authorities to investigate the killings
of journalists and protect news people from attacks. The commission says
that there has been a "notable increase" in attacks, and that they
frequently go unsolved. The recommendation was issued Tuesday to the Interior
Department, the Attorney General's Office and other government agencies.
The agencies must either comply with the recommendation or publicly explain
why they won't.By the commission's count, 85 journalists have been killed
in Mexico since 2000, and 20 others have disappeared since 2005. Only
12 of those cases have resulted in convictions..
