Well, the good thing about that is that, unless you also happen to be an
American citizen, you're not subject to the export laws. If there's a
violation, MIT are the folks violating the law. Frankly, I think the
export restriction on encryption is down right embarrasing. Encryption is
hardly arms, and so treating it as an arms export is absurd. And besides,
I'll bet you every terrorist group that sends coded messages, and every
"enemy" od the United States is using equally good encryption technology
since there's a wealth of good encryption software available outside the US.
Sorry -- I just had to soapbox. Laws as idiotic and shortsighted as
restrictions on the export of encryption software (mind you, if the
algorythms are patented, they're also public record) just get my goat.
It's right up there with the stupidity of the arms race and MAD. Okay,
I've ranted my rant so I'm shutting up now.
