Yes, the kerberized telnet/telnetd which comes with R5 and which a
more recent copy of can be found at the address listed above works
for both r4 and r5.  I am using it with r4.

Yes, you are correct in that if invokes /bin/login with a -f switch
which says the user has already been authenticated.
