[2726] in Kerberos

I have configured and installed kerberos following the installation and
operation notes. I was able to initialize the master database, add a user,
start kerberos, get a ticket for the user, list the ticket with klist, add
the user with an admin instance, added this user to the access control lists,
started kadmind -n&.
The 2 problems I am having are with the kpasswd command and with the user
trying to add a new user with kadmin. The kpasswd command gives me the
following output:
croix:pahlow% kpasswd
Old password for pahlow:
Kerberos error: Principal unknown (kerberos)
The kadmin command gives me the following output:
croix:pahlow% kadmin
Welcome to the Kerberos Administration Program, version 2
Type "help" if you need it.
admin: ank daved
Admin password:
Principal pahlow.admin@AEN.TIS.GMEDS.COM does not exist.
admin: quit
Cleaning up and exiting.
Why can't it find pahlow.admin@AEN.TIS.GMEDS.COM as I know it exists since I
got a ticket as pahlow.admin as follows:
croix:pahlow% kinit pahlow.admin

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
