I did some searching on this -- one of the hits I got was you asking  
the same question four years ago, without an answer -- and I found  
some mentions of "Kerberos (v4) registration".  The only krb4  
distribution I have handy (Cygnus Network Security, from 1996)  
doesn't mention it.

Aside from a mention in our install documentation (we apparently tell  
Mac OS X admins to register the service with NetInfo), I can't find  
any indication that MIT Kerberos v5 code is using that port at all.
