The name scheme seems to have been the problem. I found some more
documentation that explains why a bit clearer in one of the books.
Basically it has to have at least host.domain.suffix  in order to work.
The install on the test boxes went by without a hitch in setting up
Kerberos, now to implement it on the rest of the computers..
