Unless I am very confused (which is most definately possible), the cred cache routines resolve and gen_new should take a pointer to a krb5_ccache, because those routines need to allocate space for a krb5_ccache structure and return the pointer to the client. However, I am doing things in too much of rush at the moment to do this myself (I'd screw up).
