The way to propagate a "quiet" change in V4 is probably to get it in
the Cygnus CNS package -- since, after all, anyone who's actually
using V4 these days is probably *not* using MIT V4 since it doesn't
build on any modern platforms... we haven't done a release since 96q1
but there are a few other things that wouldn't hurt to put in.  I'd
have to think about the change some more, though -- the server side
error acknowledgement is actually *useful* and documented in our
installation instructions (if you get this, you've screwed up in this
manner" type of thing) and would be poor to lose.

Note that in V5, kinit by default does *not* prompt for the username,
so this is a login/xdm specific issue...
