I personally think just using Ted's signature would be good enough, but
here's how to do md5:
To verify that you have an authentic version of /dev/null, save this
message as null.asc, and type
pgp -f < null.asc | md5 -c
Your /dev/null file is authentic unless you see this line:
md5: warning: /dev/null hash does not match
