I'm interested in the cost of supporting session and/or message
specific keys in a key-escrow or key-recovery enabled communications system
-- the sort of key recovery system (communication systems as opposed to
stored records) that, as Director Freeh noted, has no real business
justification.
I'd desperately like to see estimates of the cost of a crypto
subsystem that, according to the Director, is vital but which exists soley
to provide lawmen access to illicit business transactions.
Is there any decent research or reports on actual systems which
give the additional cost of properly maintaining and managing a key
recovery or key escrow system for a communication systems of any size?
Any cost estimates out of the Fortezza experience at DoD, Commerce,
or NIST?
TIA,
_Vin
