All of the Michigan delegation I've talked to in the past week are on
the correct side of the issue, and/or were co-sponsoring SAFE. Fortunately,
I've known some of them for 15-20 years, way back in the days when they
were county commissioners or state officials (and I chaired a PAC).
Unfortunately, I've been out of the political loop since I retired from
active campaign management in '89. I haven't gotten thru to Dingell
yet, and House Commerce is the next hurdle, but I have the names of the
staffers, and am sending snail mail. He's too much heavy lifting for me
these days (sigh). May need an auto exec (or two). I'll page Moskowitz
tomorrow, see who he can round up.
How are the other states doing?
Too bad CDT/EFF/et alia aren't quite big and stable enough to have area
chapters like Sierra Club for grassroots efforts. And the web sites are
not updated regularly, in some instances (SAFE co-sponsors) since last
May. We could have a coordination edge, iff we'd only get the
technology on track.
Another point I've driving home when I get the chance: anybody who votes
in favor of the SAFE amendments or McCain-Kerrey is going to have a damn
hard time finding computer professionals come election time next year.
Let's get together and make that stick!
